Red Dead Redemption 2 is a Western-themed action-adventure game developed and published byRockstar Games. It is a prequel to the 2010 game Red Dead Redemption, and the third entry in the Red Dead series. Set in 1899, it follows the story of outlaw Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van der Linde gang, and also details the time of a younger John Marston in the same gang and his eventual departure. It was universally acclaimed by critics, who praised the story, characters, open world, and considerable level of detail. The game generated $725 million in sales from its opening weekend, shipping over 17 million copies in two weeks 😱.
So, You are wondering… How was RDR2, Is it my GOTY, Is it the best game of all time…… Well i have good news for you as This game is INDEED AMAZING, It does very well at many aspects but it does has it’s issues. Now is this game my GOTY 🤔………… Well This game gonna fight with “God Of War” to see who goes on top but we shall see what happens when i publicly post of “Game Of The Year 2018” list at the end of December, For now here is my Thoughts / Review on “ Red Dead Redemption 2”.
NOTE: I know that this review might probably cause a almost World War 3 as some big huge fans of this game will try to protect it from what i say negative about this game but please remember this, i played this game and i am giving my thoughts on it. If you don't like what i say on it, i can 100% understand but i have to remind to you all that i will not be knocking the score down from small issues the game have. Feel free to correct me if i am wrong and i will always respect your opinion, so do in return respect mine as well. Onto the review:
Pros:
  • Story: Let's start off with the story, The story of RDR 2 starts this way, the Van der Linde gang is already on the decline we know from the previous game is coming. After a heist gone wrong in Blackwater, they're on the run, down a few members, and on the verge of capture, starvation, and succumbing to a snowstorm. As senior member Arthur Morgan, you're in the privileged position of being Dutch Van der Linde's right hand, privy to his machinations and included in the most important outings. Simply that been said it's one of the best story alongside “God of War” that you can play this year, It has all sort of emotions but mostly ( without spoiling it cause it’s that good of a story) It's a happy story at the start and than the true feeling begins in the later part.
  • World: Red Dead Redemption 2's version of America is vast and wide open, stretching from snowy mountains and the Great Plains down to the original game's New Austin in the southwest. Further to the east is the Louisiana-inspired Deep South, which is still feeling the effects of the Civil War after nearly 40 years. There's a distinct shift when traveling from region to region; as grassy hillsides become alligator-filled swamps, Union veterans give way to angry Confederate holdouts, and good intentions and casual racism turn into desperation and outright bigotry. The makes the world of “RDR 2” feel rich and detailed as the snow leaves your footprints, Mud makes you dirty and you will need to shower to clean it ( and the horse’s balls details as well 🙊 ) and it both reacts to you and changes independently of your involvement; new buildings will go up as time goes on, and some of the people you talk to will remember you long after you first interacted with them (for better or worse). With that there is a moral system for been a good boy or bad boy during your playthrough. BeenGood makes a lot of positive changes to the story as well as the world around you, while been Badtakes a opposite direction as cops will hunt you down and you will have to hide OR pay bounty to get rid of them.
    • Side-quests: The Side-quests in this game is almost the same like “Witcher 3” has ( but not close to it ) as they feel like their own game. Robbing banks, doing Bounties, Poker, Dominos, fishing, hunting, theater show etc are some of the example of it and they are made really well.
    • Arthur's journal and himself: One of the best, most understated details in the game is Arthur's journal, in which he recaps big events as well as random people you've met and more mundane, everyday things. He sketches places you go, doodles the plants and animals you find, and writes out thoughts he barely speaks out loud. The journal changes with your level of honor, but at least for a relatively honorable Arthur, the pages are filled with concerns and existential crises--inner turmoil over being either good or evil, for instance--that make you want to see him become a better person. And Arthur is an really interesting Protagonist as you play throughout the story, you get to know him better and get to know what an life he is living for the gang. Arthur is easily the best main-character “Rockstar Games” has made with the best voice-acting and motion capture they have done 👏
    • Camp System: As the story tells that your gang is on the run, each places they place a Camp there ( which is basically your home point in this game ) where you can do many activities in there, example been you can rest there, clean your horse, talk with your gang, play many mini-games or just sit down near a fire and hear the stories they tell to each other.
    • Soundtrack & Audio Design: “Rockstar Games” has once again made a outstanding soundtrack to listen to and one of the best in 2018. It fits perfectly to the scene you are in the game and the location where the game is set( May I! ( Unshaken ) been my favorite one and please do listen to the “The Game Awards 2018” “Red Dead Redemption 2” Music played there live because it's AWESOME ). With the awesome soundtrack the audio design is top notch as you can hear the world around you alive ( Mud sound, bird chirping, horses riding, people fixing homes and many more ).
    • Characters: All the characters you meet in “RDR 2” are really greatly written, All the gang members have there own story of how they got till here and what happened to them before, even all the people that are not in your gang member have their own story behind them. Characters model design is “outstanding” as all of them look great and are different than each other.
    • (*) Animations & Physics: The Animations of the characters almost look like real people, they way like real, bend like real and the overall the capture done behind it is outstanding by “Rockstar Games”, A small bump onto a wall makes your character fly off the horse which was funny each time it happened to me. Physics is also well done as object falls like they should.
    • 2-WAY Dialogue recorded: What i mean by 2-way dialogue recorded is the same that was in 2018’s “Spider-Man”, when you are riding on the horse and are close to the other character, you hear him talking normally but when you distance yourself from them, he starts to shout talk to you as he is far away than you, This is a really small detail but worth the mention.
    • Customization: There are a lot of ways to customize whatever you want in this game, like choosing a dresshairbeard for Arthur, choosing Saddle for you horse, Customising the weapons and much more.
    • I have to mention this as there are 59 weapons to get as you playthrough this game so good luck getting them all if you play to do an 100% run of it 👍
    • Also have to mention, NO BROKEN SECTIONS OF THE STORY FOR DLC OR MICROTRANSACTION ( In story mode ). A+ for that 👍
    • Combat / Deadeye system:The combat in “RDR 2” has not much improved than in “GTA 5” but its not a bad thing as combat for me was alright in here, the best part in “RDR 2” which makes a return from the last one is theDeadeye System, it's basically the Bullet-time from Max payne ( Oh man! How i miss the max payne series and want another one 😭 ) but here you can point into any part of the body to shoot at which feels badass and is just beautiful to watch how it works.
    Cons:
    • Menu: The Menu in “RDR 2” is not so great nor even close to been good, Its awful map with no whatsoever details on it, Inventory for food or drink etc is mix up so you be wondering what is what and where it is. I just did not liked it.
    • Too Sensitive Controls: Another thing to mention is that the control could feel too sensitive with no option to change it ( When it comes out to PC, hopefully there we can change it ) which might cause some funny moments like falling of the horse each time but in places like close rooms, you can not get what you want as the character moves way too much even when rarely you just tap the controller stick.
      • Law will be on your butt all the time: I felt like the law in this game is too sensitive as doing a small little crime will get you “Hunted” as the cops will hunt you down. And no-matter where you commit a crime, apparently there will always be one guy who witnesses it and than reports it to the cops ( It’s not a huge problem i had but had to menton it )
      • edemption 2 100% ( PS4 )

“ Inventory in “Red Dead Redemption 2” is a mess IMO ”
        • Too Sensitive Controls: Another thing to mention is that the control could feel too sensitive with no option to change it ( When it comes out to PC, hopefully there we can change it ) which might cause some funny moments like falling of the horse each time but in places like close rooms, you can not get what you want as the character moves way too much even when rarely you just tap the controller stick.

        • Too much Realistic: Another problem that i enjoyed at the start of the game but got way too quickly boring and repetitive at the later part is the Animations of picking stuff up. It has its positives( Which i mention in the ( * ) pros section ) but it has its problems, For Example: picking stuff up from Tables / bodies etc takes a while, they first pick the body up than put there hand in the pockets and get the item, Same goes on baiting the animals, they turn the animal in the right direction and then slice the knife across the whole body and put the skin in there pocket OR the slow walking in the Campor Inside a building, i mean come on let us choose to walk slow or fast there, I respect their attention to details and making the game realistic from But i think its too much ( you can fight me on it if you want to )

        • Can’t get too Creative during Missions: During missions, you can not use your creativity to finish the mission which again is not a big deal but i have to mention each and every problems that Ifaced during my playthrough,Example given like during a mission where you have to kill a person but before doing that you have to follow him to get to the location where the game is programed to let you kill him. I mean like why follow him if i could just shoot him whenever i want and than run away. I don't understand 💁 ). I can understand that they made this intensenal to tell the story of the game but still i have to mention it.
        • Economic system breaking down: I don't know if i am the only one who felt like the first bank heist mission just breaks the money system of the game. By breaking i don’t mean glitches or bugs but what i mean is that after that mission, i felt like i have enough money to almost buy everything in the game and it made me felt like doing the other bank robberies mission was not necessarily for those people who did the main-story only. BUT i had to do them for my 100% run and they were not bad at all.
        ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
        Final Verdict:
         10 / 10 ( MASTERPIECE )

    • all wrong, “Rockstar Games” “Red Dead Redemption 2” is a masterpiece of a game as they have indeed shown us that they worked hard on this game to be as perfect as they could have made, it has great story, great characters, beautiful world ( That snow 😮 ) and many more which has made this game the best game “Rockstar Games” has made as of now and a “must-to-buy” Game from me.
It is available to get on Playstation Store OR Xbox Games Store for $59.99 for Standard Edition, $79.99 for special Edition OR $99.99 for Ultimate Edition
