Marvel’s Spider-Man ( PS4 )

Time beaten: 38 Hours ( 84% / Spectacular difficulty )
Marvel’s Spider-Man, commonly referred to as Spider-Man, is an action-adventure game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the Playstation 4, based on the Marvel Comics superhero Spider-Man. Released worldwide on September 7, 2018, it is the first licensed game developed by Insomniac. The game tells a new story about Spider-Man that is not tied to an existing comic book, video game, or film, and covers both the Peter Parker and Spider-Man aspects of the character.
So is this the superhero game we all wanted to see in video-games industry, Did this game is better than those awful spider-man games we had in the past and did “Insomniac Games” did a pretty good job on it.. Well! YES, INDEED YES they did a fine job on this game and this game could be the superhero game we all wanted… Here is My Review – Thoughts on Marvel’s Spider-Man:
Pros:
  • Let’s start off with the Story, Marvel’s Spider-man has an incredible Good story to follow you thought. You play as Spider-man himself swinging through New York City and saving many peoples day and play as Peter Parker, the man behind the mask who is an 23 years old student who interning at a laboratory while about to graduate from college and additionally, Peter is working as a lab assistant for Dr. Otto Octavius as he tries to perfect artificial limb technology. The story takes you thought many feeling of laugh, happiness to sadness with an impactful ending and ( No Spoilers ) a good after credit scene.
  • The optional activities do provide some welcome relief in pacing from the more intense episodes of the main story. In fact, the game at times will give Spidey (and by extension, you) dedicated time for breaks in between missions to clear your head with some silly, low-stakes activities. And in the end,, they are undeniably irresistible to seek out and complete, purely because they act as a satisfactory enough reason to get out there and play with Spider-Man’s sensational web-slinging mechanics.
  • Speaking of Spider-Man, His and many characters you meet during the game voice-acting and dialogues is superb. Some of them are Serious to other been funny. They all did a great job on that… 👏
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man is an Open-World game so it must be well crafted for it to work and they did a pretty good job on it… City feels alive rather than silent and dead ( Sorry Batman: Arkham series, i am pointing to you ). People feel alive even tho you do not spend many time on the ground cause you are web-slinging around the city most of the time, Buildings to water texture looks outstanding ( meaning graphics are good ). Overall! Insomniac did an outstanding job on making the New york city open-world a living play EXCEPT of one Negative about it ( which we tell in the Cons section )
  • Now for the real question: As you are the Spider-Man so how’s the web-slinging? Easy: more reactive, responsive, and fun than ever. Trying not to wear out the Arkham analogies (because the game is markedly different from the Arkham games in some core areas), but while a game like Arkham City is a combat-focused action game with a minor focus on open-world action/adventure gameplay, Spidey is an open-world action/adventure game with a minor focus on combat-focused action gameplay. Getting the hang of taking off, wall-running, free-falling, web stunts, web-zipping, and everything in-between to pick up speed is where the game feels like it’s at its strongest.
  • With an well done web-slinging system for “Spider-man”, the combat system is also well done. It feels like the combat system was taken from the “Batman series” games and improved on it. With good combat-system there are Combat-specific challenges which also encourage you to mix up your technique, but it’s the fluid transitions between attacks and the appearance of a natural flow that again sell the excitement. Spidey’s flashy finishers and their over-the-top camera movements work to add some pizazz in addition to being an excellent tool in their own right.
  • As i Played this game on Spectacular difficulty, it has given me a new appreciation for the game as well: if you happen to get roughed up by a gang of thugs early on – which can and will happen on Spectacular difficulty – you lose the encounter, but you gain the experience for whatever enemies you did beat, and you just checkpoint out of the encounter until a new crime needs to be stopped. I have to commend Insomniac for trying to create a game that can be so accessible to low-level players but also provide high-level challenge without trying to actively punish people who seek out said challenges.
  • The Puzzles in “Spider-man’ are really good and well done.
  • Insomniac’s art team did an absolutely fantastic jobs with the costumes available. You can tell they took their time to really figure out what each costume was made of. In the Advanced Suit, the light shines differently on the white armored parts than they do the matte blue spandex parts. The care put into these costumes actually made me appreciate them more than I did originally.
  • For those who love to take pictures of their games and post them in social medias and websites, Photo mode is pretty awesome in “Marvel’s Spider-man”. You can jump to the top of the tallest building in the game and take a selfie of it. It’s easy and fun to use
  • And for those who love soundtracks in the game, “Spider-man” has an good soundtracks andJohn Paesano ( who did the soundtrack ) did an good job 👏
  • Some of the Easter eggs and collectibles are fun to find / explore and some of the collectibles have a background story on it which is related to comics / tv series / movies of Spider-man
  • There is a leveling up system in the game and it is done greatly, Levelling up allows players to invest points in a trio of skill trees, focused on Innovator, Defender, and Webslinger paths. Brimming with active and passive perks and abilities, these trees offer the opportunity to upgrade existing powers or unlock entirely new ones. Players have the freedom to focus on abilities that improve Spidey’s acrobatic prowess, combat skills, or various combinations of the two.
Cons:
  • The biggest con of this game is thelies in the use of a trite open-world mechanic. A good example is the old tower reveals mechanic find in many Far-cry and Assassin creed games. You begin the game with a blank world map, and it’s necessary to make time to traverse through each of Manhattan’s neighborhoods to find and reactivate a number of towers in order to uncover the map and pinpoint optional activities. There is some light narrative justification for this (Spidey needs to get access to local police radio for info on crimes) but it doesn’t address the puzzling nature of a veteran Spider-Man not innately knowing how to get around New York City.
  • While the Main-quest is good and some of the side-quest as well, other side-quest are just not good. They might be repetitive to simply plain boring but luckily good side-quests overtakes the bad once. For exampleSome of the Research Missions, which are there to provide you with some alternate styles of play, fall with a dull thud. (There’s one involving barrels in water that was just unclear and a bit tedious.) And there’s one major story choice that I feel was a misstep
  • Speaking of side-quests and activities you do in this Open-World. There are some Chase missions you need to do to catch some birds ( for some reason ) and drones and while the web-slinging is good, it gets annoying as you chase the drone / bird while it gets keep getting away and away. I personally did not like that
  • While Some collectibles are great to find and study behind them, other collectibles are simply useless and not interesting to find them as this is one of many problems Open-World games have as the developers try to fill an open-world with stuff like this ( radio-towers, collectibles, finding black cats and etc.. )
  •  In terms of core gameplay, This are at some parts of the game some QTEs which you will have to do which do rear their ugly head from time to time, but for the first time in Spider-Man and thankfully they are used a little more sparingly.
  • So you are Spider-Man so it means there must be some part of the game where stealth mechanics which is required to do which are auto-fail if you mess them up ( even by pushing a small box, A BOX ) which could become annoying. Other annoying thing is that often you will be doing the stealth takedowns in some parts of the game which could become repetitive as you see watching the same stealth takedown animations again and again if you choose to go down that path.
  •  Some boss fights get the same mechanic of doing one stuff over and over again, Though the solution to beating them doesn’t take much to figure out, your opponents attack relentlessly, meaning you’ll have to constantly stay on your toes, moving and dodging around while waiting for an opening–a dynamic that feels very true to the character, which goes a long way in making these moments memorable.
  • I do find that Spider-Man has the same problem that the Arkham games did, in that in larger groups, it can sometimes be difficult to hit the right target. You’ll rely on the auto-lock for a melee attack or Web Strike, only to hit the wrong target. You can hold L2 to choose a specific target, but it feels a bit inelegant overall
Final Verdict: 9 / 10 ( Fantastic )
Despite the Cons i have mentented which can be easily be ignored or not simply cared for. Marvel’s “Spider-Man” is an Fantastic game to experience and play on the “PS4 if you love spider-man or Marvel itself. It’s easily an best Marvel game made up to this time. It’s a must-to-buy game for $59.99 and can be easily played till you 100% it without getting bored.
